Movement Glitches/Tech
Back Booster
This is not a glitch, but it is important to know the speeds you are competing with for these other methods. The maximum speed is 10 m/s, with +1.5 m/s per boost.
Headbutt Boost
Hold any reasonably small item in front of your face, then let go, move your head forward to bang into it, and grab it again, all in quick succession. Grabbing it again is optional, but it allows you to repeat the process to achieve extra speed. Moving your hand is not necessary, as the speed boost you get is determined by the speed of your head as it hits the item. Sometimes, it is advantageous to forego regrabbing the item and try to get a speedier boost by bashing your head more exuberantly. This strat gives you a sore neck.
Pause Boosting
This is an extension of headbutt boosting, but makes use of the pause menu to gain more speed. If you move in the pause menu, when you unpause, your character moves very quickly to the new physical position, getting you a massive speed boost. It seems more inconsistent than in LE1, and the pause menu takes longer to hide.
The maximum achievable speed with this method is ~96 m/s. The speed is dependent on how far you physically move through the object when paused.
Smoothturn Boosting
If you push off of a surface while holding any object in your other hand while in the process of rotating using smooth turn, your push speed is not capped. You can do this with any object or even the tablet (including the dialog tablet). You can combine this technique with headbutt boosting to get even more speed, since you generally already have an object in your hand. The maximum speed achievable with this method is 10 m/s.
Biomass speedcap removal
If you grab an active biomass and escape again (with both hands), the speed cap for moving by throwing yourself is removed entirely. There are a variety of techniques involving wrist flicks and tracing loss that may get more speed, but the idea is that you can throw yourself at any speed that you can move your hand. The maximum speed achievable with this method is somewhere north of 20-30 m/s, but it is difficult to achieve a very fast speed.
Pushing objects against your face
There are a few objects that you can just push against your face to get speed.
Remote grabber on rocks
If you use the remote grabber on some of the larger asteroids/rocks, you can put the rock behind your head to "push" yourself around.
Stremming/playspace abuse
This may get extra speed during some of the tutorials, but isn't very useful in larger distances.
